How to stay anonymous with Telegram

Tip: If you no longer want to be contacted by others, remove the username again.

Example 1: Your name in Telegram is "Leon". You have hidden your phone number and have not set up a username. If you then write a comment in our channel, you will appear under your name. If others tap on your profile picture, they will only see "unknown" instead of your phone number. This means they cannot write to you or contact you.

Example 2: Your name in Telegram is "Leon". You have hidden your phone number and set up "Leon26" as your username. If you now write a comment in a channel, you will still appear under your name. However, when others tap on your profile picture, they will see your username "Leon26" instead of your phone number. Now they can tap on this username to open a chat with you and write to you. Others can also enter "Leon26" in the Telegram search to find and write to you.

Which name is displayed for my Telegram contacts?

If the other contact has saved you in their address book with your phone number, the name under which they have entered you in their address book will always be displayed in Telegram. If the other contact has only got to know you via your user name - i.e. has not saved your phone number - they will see your name. If they tap on your profile, they will also see your user name. So if you choose a different name and user name, the other person will not be able to find out your real name.

How to archive and dearchive your Telegram chats and channels

Archiving chats and channels is a handy Telegram feature that allows you to remove unused or temporarily unneeded conversations from your main screen without deleting them. This way you can keep your chat area clean and organised. Try it out and experience how easy it is to structure your Telegram chats and still be able to access them at any time.

Why archive?

Archiving does not delete your chats, it simply hides them. They remain accessible but do not clutter your home screen. This is particularly useful if you want to temporarily hide some chats without losing them.

And this is how you archive chats and channels on Android and ios. It's very simple:

1. Just swipe the chat/channel you want to archive from right to left and then click on the "Archive" button. This function makes archiving much easier.
2. You will now find your archived chats at the top. If you now drag the "Archived chat" again from right to left, the "Hide" function will appear. If you click on this, the archived chat disappears completely from your overview.

And this is how you dearchive chats and channels on ios again.

1. You can then find and unarchive it again by simply swiping from top to bottom on the screen. In this case, the archived chat/channel will reappear. However, it is still in the archive.
2. If you now swipe it from right to left again, the functions "Pin", "Delete" or "Show" will appear. If you now click on "Show", your chat/channel will reappear in your overview.

If you want to restore archived chats on Android, proceed as follows:

1. Open the "Archived chats" folder. Now swipe down the list of conversations on your main screen to display the folder with the archived chats.
2. Select conversations: Press and hold the conversations or channels you want to retrieve from the archive until they are marked with a tick.
3. Open menu: Tap the three vertical dots to open the options menu.
4. Cancel archiving: Select the "Unarchive" option to display the chats in the main list again.

Another option for Android users: You can also simply swipe from right to left in the archived chat to retrieve it from the archive and display it in the main list.
